WebJun 19, 2024 · The phonon branches are represented with a variable-width solid band: corresponding to the anharmonic width multiplied by a factor 10. The open dark gray circles indicate the reduced q position at which an anomalous enlargement of the phonon width is expected for the high-energy LO branches. WebSep 12, 2024 · Chiral phonons have been theoretically proposed [Zhang and Niu, Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 115502 (2015)] and experimentally verified [Zhu et al., Science 359, 579 (2024)] in materials with hexagonal lattice. Here, we theoretically predict and investigate the chiral phonons in the kagome lattice. Phonons can be labeled by the manner in which the vibrations occur. If the vibration occurs lengthwise in the direction of the wave and involves contraction and relaxation of the lattice, the phonon is called a "longitudinal phonon". Alternatively, the atoms may vibrate side-to-side, perpendicular to wave propagation direction; this is known as a "transverse phonon”. In general, transverse vibrations tend to have smaller frequencies than longitudinal vibrations. WebThis repository provides a set of Python and shell scripts for performing phonon calculations using Phonopy and VASP. The workflow consists of the following steps: Prepare the necessary input files for VASP. Run VASP calculations on displaced structures. WebThere are two branches, the lower of which is the acoustical branch and the higher of which is the optical branch, with a gap between them. (Note that the two branches still exist for equal masses, but the gap closes.) Equation copied from this site, which also has this nice animation of the two modes.
